MY GOALS
My goals for our community as county council.
It has been my long-held belief that communities which embrace diversity – people from many different background – will benefit in multiple ways. Yet, we also acknowledge the impact of diversity is paradoxical. Lack of knowledge and sensitivity, experience with and awareness of different values, attitudes, beliefs and traditions can lead to misunderstanding and tension among various groups. However, rather than viewing these challenges as obstacles, let us seize them as opportunities to strengthen our community through well-researched programs designed to examine and break down the stereotypes, myths and barriers among the divides of race, faith, gender and other diversities – a critical first step in the blueprint for building an inclusive workplace culture that reflects mutual trust, acceptance and respect of all its employees.
I will partner with natural resource managers, engineers and many others to help protect and improve environmental quality, control pollution, remedy environmental damage, and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
Equity in education must be a critical priority in Anne Arundel County. All children in our state deserve the opportunity to have a quality education that allows them to grow and thrive, yet there are many students within Maryland without this opportunity, whether due to unequal funding of school districts, lack of sufficient school construction funding, a lack of diversity in our educators, or a failure to sufficiently support families and communities through our schools.
I will help promote programs that allow minorities to come together for leadership trainings, workforce development, networking, and community outreach as well as access to mentors. My hope will be that this initiative connects, inspires, and empowers young minority professionals and college students from across the nation through leadership, networking, and community building to prepare them for the pursuit of their career, all while celebrating their culture!
